I found the Hershey's website. I have never heard of Hershey's Track and Field before. Has anyone ever participated in the National event? It looks fun. There is a qualifier in our area. However it runs the same time as USATF and AAU nationals. Looks like decent times come out of it though. Anyone know much about it or participated in it?

Hi Jarrah,

Hershey's is a wondeful grassroots meet that introduces kids to track and field.they encourge youth that are new to track and field. the field isn't as competitve time not quite as fast as any National meet finals but many great athletes have come from that beginning experience. It is always on the same time schedule as the Nationals(I think they do that so the most compettive kids won't be there, they don't use spikes or blocks. I wish Lauren could g o to that meet but I don't think it will happen. Darn, seems like a lot of fun for the kids...

Thanks Lorraine, yeah it looks like my daughters events would interfere with AAU... so we would have to make a choice. I am sure she would choose AAU for a little more competition. Too bad it interferes. But it makes sense. Thanks again for your input :)

Hello,
My daughter Jasmyne Johnson has participated in both AAU and Hershey. Last year was the first time she participated in Hershey. She went to Hershey and ran her fastest time in the 800. Her team usually participates in AAU but Jasmyne really likedHershey and if she qualifies again this year she will probably go to Hershey. Hershey is a more relaxed atmosphere and it is at no cost to the family.

No Cost for the child or the entire family?

I think this is a great example of the competiiton and scheduling fitting your family goals perfectly.

Hey,

No cost to the parent or the athlete, and the athletes get to go to Hershey Park, and the chocolate factory, and they get to meet Olympians.

Thanks so much, we are trying to decide what to do with our daughter, Madison this year. She runs the 1500. This will be our second year with her competing nationally.
