Hi Track Moms,

I was curious if any of your athletes have tried or are competting in the Turbojav?
Tom Petranoff and I are seeking feedback from athletes, coaches, and track moms!

Thanks a bunch

I absolutely love Tom Petroff and have even purchased his training DVD....I see many athletes using the Mini Jav out there and I believe there would be more kids out there with a better introduction, perhaps in the schools as an activity that doesn't compete with hte full track plate of events? It is very hard with limited funds, understanding and time to train to allow the kids to try everything that track and field offers. My daughter(a sprinter) really wants to try but we just don't have the time nor the coaching to introduce it properly with every thing else on her plate ...Piano,singing track church etc....

Have you heard that comment before?

Thanks for the input, yes we agree the biggest obstacle is hands on demonstration of the event. When kids see a turbo jav fly 50-70meters it defiantely adds a "WOW" factor. We are really putting forth an effort to get to different areas for proper demonstrations and coaches training. I am trying to reach out to areas and see where the interest is and somehow come up with a way to get there.

We have uploaded some cool ideas on setting up a Youth training sector out of household items. Kids love this! http://www.turbojav.com/CoachCorner.html

Sprinters make excellent turbojav throwers because of their speed, beleive it or not, its not a power event! It is a finesse event. The perfect example is the the American records for Bantam Boys is 41.16m (135'0) and Bantam Girls is 37.15m (121'10) Thats only 14 feet differance. I attended the USATF championships in pittsburgh this year and a female youth thrower, out threw everyone including the boys!

Where are you located?

Thanks!

Man, I wish I had gotten one of those nuclear lawn darts to play with when they were selling off the stock of the USATF Junior Meet a couple of years ago.

More seriously, I would like to see more adaptations of track's weapons of war that are safe for beginners.

I understand the turbo is used by big kids for indoor training?

Mr. Voice that is funny.
Yeah they are used indoor and outdoors for big boy javelin throwers too. The benefit is they travel almost the same distance as a real javelin, within 1-2 meters. But if you screw up technique you dont hurt a shoulder or elbow. You get a lot more reps in with the Turbos, and not to mention the safety factor. I have seen some pretty crazy things from kids practicing with real javelins.

If you send me your info and pay the shipping ,I will send you one.

I may have to take you up on that, thanks ...

I hope Mr. Petranoff is not unamused. I recall that we cleared the track for him in Knoxville ('82 Nationals) when the "old" lighter spear was still in use...

Did I see Tom is a leader active in NJ youth track?

I hadn't thought about the reps, but yeah..great time-saver

And jav injuries are wicked...I saw a Penn State kid shred a knee here last year...

Now if y'all could just come up with a turbo hammer...
