More Woes About High Fructose Corn Syrup

Why High-Fructose Corn Syrup Causes Insulin Resistance

A new study in mice sheds light on at least part of the reason for the insulin resistance that can come from diets high in high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener found in most sodas and many other processed foods.

Fructose is much more readily metabolized to fat in the liver than glucose, and in the process can lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. NAFLD in turn leads to hepatic insulin resistance and type II diabetes.… Continue

Hannah Cunliffe Opens "FAST"

Watching Hannah Cunliffe over the past couple of years one thing is certain she is one to watch. A bright eyed, funny, slim, home schooled lighting bolt speedster, Hannah never surprises me..You shouldn't be surprised either. Hannah has a lot In store for youth track fans as she debuted in the Youth Girl ranks this past weekend . Note (* The first place and sixth place finishers were middle school unattached entrants *)

Hannah runs 7.79 60M in 2009 Season Opener

The PreMentality

PRE-MENTALITY

(The Mental Athlete)

By: Christopher Mack, C1, Quiet Fire Youth Track Club, CA

We spend hours practicing our athletes physically, but how much time do we spend practicing the mental aspect of our sport.

Joan Benoit, Olympic Gold Medalist believes that running is 80% mental. Professional athletes spend a lot of time and money with Sports Psychologists to help perfect techniques such as positive self-talk, affirmations, goal setting and visualization.

Hi Track mom,
How are you? Things are going well, as you said busy, busy, busy. Football is going well, we are 9-0 entering our second week of playoffs. Jaylin has 27 touchdowns up to this point. Our track season ended with nationals in Michigan. Jaylin was disappointed with his 5th place finish in the 800m, but made up for it with 1st places finishes in the 1500m and the 4x400m relay. How is volleyball going for Lauren. Wow, I can't believe how fast Lauren is growing, 4'11. Hope all is well talk to you soon.

Hi Lorraine,

I don't see a distorted picture. I will have to check it out when I get on my home computer. Thank you for the nice comments on Brooke. She was not herself this weekend, not feeling 100%, so her times were really off. We will take a break and then prepare for Iowa. Are you guys doing a double for JOs?
Lauren looked great this weekend. How did she do in long jump?
