Why High-Fructose Corn Syrup Causes Insulin Resistance A new study in mice sheds light on at least part of the reason for the insulin resistance that can come from diets high in high-fructose corn syrup, a sweetener found in most sodas and many other processed foods. Fructose is much more readily metabolized to fat in the liver than glucose, and in the process can lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Jill McCluskey 2009 AAU Northern Indoor

The 2009 AAU Northern Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet took place over the weekend (Friday to Sunday) in Merrillville, Indiana. I brought my daughter Lauren to compete in the pentathlon and the individual competitions in high jump, long jump, and hurdles in the midget age group. We live in Washington state, and there no indoor meets for youth within driving distance for us. We flew into Chicago and drove just under an hour to Merrillville.
